Location
Zephyr Cove Snowmobile Center operates from Zephyr Cove Resort, located on the east shore of Lake Tahoe just north of the Nevada/California border. The address is approximately 760 Highway 50, Zephyr Cove, NV 89448 — the staging area itself is set back from the highway in the resort property. Look for the operator's signage along Highway 50.

From South Lake Tahoe
If you're staying at Heavenly Village, Edgewood, Hard Rock, Harvey's, or any other Stateline-area lodging, the drive to Zephyr Cove is straightforward: take Highway 50 north out of Stateline. The road follows the east shore of the lake. Zephyr Cove is the first major resort property you reach. Pull off the highway at the operator signage.
In normal road conditions, plan 15 minutes from any Stateline lodging. In a winter storm, plan 30 — and verify the road is open (Highway 50 occasionally closes between Stateline and Cave Rock during heavy storms).
From Reno-Tahoe Airport
The standard winter route from RNO is south on Highway 395 to Carson City, then west on Highway 50 over Spooner Summit and down into Tahoe. Spooner Summit is the chain-control bottleneck — in heavy weather you may need to install tire chains here even with all-wheel drive.
Allow 90 minutes in normal conditions, 2+ hours in heavy weather. There's no faster route — the alternatives go around the lake the long way.
From the Bay Area / Sacramento
The Bay Area / Sacramento route is Highway 50 east through Placerville, over Echo Summit, and down into South Lake Tahoe. Echo Summit is the chain-control bottleneck on this approach. Tour Zephyr Cove is then 5–8 miles further east via Stateline.
From SF in good conditions: 3.5 hours. From Sacramento: 2 hours. Add 30–60 minutes in heavy weather.
Parking
Free parking at Zephyr Cove Resort. The lot is large and rarely fills, even on holiday weekends. Park near the main lodge or follow signage to the snowmobile staging area parking. You'll be on the snowmobile for 2–4 hours, so park in a spot you're happy to leave your vehicle in.
Winter driving conditions
The drive to Zephyr Cove is straightforward in good weather and challenging in storms. The Sierra storm pattern can bring 6–18 inches of snow in 24 hours, with chain controls posted on all approach routes. Standard winter-driving precautions:
- Carry chains. California and Nevada both enforce chain control. AWD with all-season tires does NOT exempt you from R2 controls.
- Half tank minimum. Fuel stations are limited around the lake.
- Check road status the morning of your tour. Nevada DOT and Caltrans both post real-time chain control and closure status.
- Build buffer time. If your tour starts at 10 AM, plan to leave 90 minutes before that even from nearby lodging, just in case.
Public transit
There's no direct public transit from South Lake Tahoe to Zephyr Cove during winter. Some shuttle services and the BlueGo bus operate seasonally — verify schedules with the operator. For most visitors, driving (or a rideshare) is the only option.
Rideshare and taxi
Uber and Lyft serve the South Lake Tahoe / Stateline area but availability is lower than in major cities. Surge pricing during peak ski periods is significant. Allow extra time for pickup, especially in early morning when ski-day traffic peaks.
