The operator
Lake Tahoe Adventures runs guided snowmobile tours from Zephyr Cove Resort with shuttle transportation south to Hope Valley in Alpine County, California. The company operates under the same Aramark / Yosemite Hospitality umbrella as Zephyr Cove Resort itself, sharing infrastructure, booking systems, and the central staging point at 760 US-50.
The summer business is ATV and RZR tours through the same general terrain. The winter snowmobile business operates roughly November through May, weather permitting.
What's on offer
- Summit Snowmobile Tour — the 2-hour Hope Valley route, beginner-friendly, the most-booked tour
- Exclusive Summit Tour — same route, your party only with a dedicated guide
- Ultimate Snowmobile Tour — 4-hour advanced backcountry with off-trail powder riding
The Hope Valley terrain
Hope Valley sits at about 7,000 ft elevation in Alpine County, just south of Lake Tahoe and west of the Carson Pass crest. The terrain is classic Sierra Nevada eastern-flank: open meadows, pine forest, granite ridges, and the dramatic Sierra Crest forming the western horizon. The valley itself is glacial in origin and retains snow significantly longer than the Lake Tahoe basin proper.
The LTA tour routes use Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest trails operating under permit, with established routes covering meadow climbs, ridgeline viewpoints over Faith Valley and Charity Canyon, and (for the Ultimate Tour) off-trail powder zones in deeper Sierra terrain south of the standard tour area.
The shuttle
All Lake Tahoe Adventures snowmobile tours include shuttle transportation from Zephyr Cove Resort. You don't need to drive to Hope Valley yourself — and given the 25-minute drive each way on a winter road, that's a meaningful benefit, especially in storm conditions. The shuttle also picks up from select South Lake Tahoe hotels (Trendwest/Wyndham, Golden Nugget, Edgewood Tahoe, Caesars/Harveys, 3 Peaks, Harrah's, Marriott/Cinema at Heavenly Village, and the Ski Run Blvd/50 bus stop). The pickup option is selected during the FareHarbor booking process.
Operating season
LTA operates the snowmobile business from November to May, weather permitting. The Hope Valley elevation and aspect retain snow longer than the lake-level Zephyr Cove tours, which is why LTA's season extends earlier and later. Peak conditions and full route availability typically run mid-January through mid-March. Early-season (November) and late-season (April–May) tours run on more limited routes adapted to the available snowpack.
How they compare to Zephyr Cove Snowmobile Center
Same parent company (Aramark), same staging point (Zephyr Cove Resort), same booking platform (FareHarbor) — but very different ride experiences. Zephyr Cove tours climb directly above the staging area into the El Dorado National Forest with lake views the whole way. LTA tours shuttle you 25 minutes south to Hope Valley for Sierra backcountry without lake views. Both are excellent; they're different products.
