About the Zephyr Cove
Snowmobile Center.

The longest-running snowmobile operation on Lake Tahoe's south shore — operated as part of Zephyr Cove Resort by Aramark / Yosemite Hospitality LLC. Three guided tours, a Polaris fleet, and a staging area three miles north of Stateline.

The operator

The Zephyr Cove Snowmobile Center is the winter operation of Zephyr Cove Resort, which is operated by Aramark's hospitality division (Yosemite Hospitality LLC — the same Aramark subsidiary that operates lodging and recreation in Yosemite National Park, as well as Zephyr Cove Resort year-round).

It is not affiliated with any third-party snowmobile guide service — bookings made through any reseller, including this site, are fulfilled by the same Zephyr Cove operations team that handles direct bookings.

What's on offer

Three bookable tours, all guided, all using the operator's Polaris snowmobile fleet:

Fleet and equipment

The fleet is Polaris mountain-style snowmobiles, maintained on-site. Mountain sleds are designed for the deeper Sierra snow, with longer tracks and engine configurations tuned for elevation. The fleet is refreshed regularly — most riders are on machines that are 2–4 years old.

Equipment includes insulated snowsuits, DOT-rated helmets, snow boots, and insulated gloves. Sizing is available in standard adult sizes; verify availability if you have smaller children or non-standard sizing needs.

Routes and terrain

All routes operate in the El Dorado National Forest immediately above Zephyr Cove, on US Forest Service-permitted terrain. The trail system is groomed and maintained by the operator throughout the season. Routes follow ridges and old lumber roads, with elevations ranging from the staging area (6,400 ft) to high overlooks at 8,500+ ft.

The operator is permitted for specific routes only — riders are not allowed to leave the designated trail system. This is both a USFS requirement and a safety measure (off-trail terrain has avalanche risk, tree wells, and unmarked hazards that the maintained trail system doesn't).

Guides

The lead guides are experienced Sierra winter operators. The pre-ride instruction format is standardized — same briefing every ride — which keeps the safety baseline consistent regardless of which guide leads your specific tour.

History

Snowmobile operations at Zephyr Cove date back to the 1980s, with the current organizational structure stabilizing in the 2000s under Aramark's expansion of recreation operations across multiple parks and resorts. Zephyr Cove Resort itself has operated as a Lake Tahoe destination since the early 20th century.

How bookings work

All bookings — direct and through resellers — flow through FareHarbor, the booking platform Aramark uses across its activity portfolio.
